Accessibility Statement

We want Dear Nobody™ to be usable with keyboards, screen readers, and common assistive setups. This page describes our approach, honest limits, and how to tell us when something fails.

Last updated: March 2026

Dear Nobody™ is operated by Intelliquinte L.L.C. Everyone deserves a fair shot at reading, writing, and navigating the site—whether or not they use a mouse, see the screen, or hear the page read aloud. We’re not perfect; we’re improving.

Conformance status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) set shared expectations for accessible web content.

Dear Nobody™ is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. “Partially conformant” means some parts of the experience may not yet meet every success criterion. Where we fall short, we want to hear from you so we can prioritize fixes.

What we strive for

  • Keyboard use: Core flows (navigation, forms, modals) are built to work with Tab, Shift+Tab, Enter, and Escape. If something can’t be reached or operated with a keyboard, tell us.
  • Visible focus: Interactive controls use visible focus styles so you can see where you are on the page.
  • Skip link: A skip link is available on many pages to jump past repeated navigation.
  • Semantics: We use semantic HTML and, where appropriate, ARIA to support assistive technologies.
  • Contrast: We aim for readable text contrast on our own UI; user-submitted content in the Mailbox may vary.
  • Motion: Site styles respect prefers-reduced-motion where implemented.
  • Contrast preferences: Styles respond to prefers-contrast: high in places (see our stylesheets).
  • Modals: Important dialogs use focus management and can typically be closed with Escape.
  • Forms: Inputs are associated with labels; errors are surfaced in the UI (we continue to improve live announcements for screen readers).
  • Zoom & reflow: Layout is responsive; we aim for usability when text is enlarged (including around 200% zoom).

Known limitations

  • Third-party widgets: Cloudflare Turnstile (and similar) may not meet the same standards as our first-party UI. We choose providers carefully but cannot fully control their markup or behavior.
  • Dynamic content: Some content loads after the page opens; screen reader announcements may be incomplete until we improve live-region coverage.
  • User-generated content: Letters and posts in the Mailbox come from the community; structure and headings inside submissions are not authored by us.
  • Embedded or external material: If we embed content from elsewhere in the future, it may carry its own accessibility limits.

Feedback and help

If you hit a barrier—something you can’t use, can’t understand, or can’t complete—please tell us. We route accessibility feedback the same way as other site issues so nothing gets lost.

  • Email: support@dearnobody.org — use subject line Accessibility so we can prioritize it.
  • What to include: The page URL, what you were trying to do, what went wrong, and (if relevant) your browser, OS, and assistive technology.
  • Response time: We aim to reply within a few business days with next steps or clarifying questions.

General (non-accessibility) questions: Contact. Law enforcement process is separate: Law enforcement guidelines.

Compatibility

The site is developed for current versions of major browsers. We do not support Internet Explorer. Very old browser versions may not render or behave correctly.

How we check

We combine automated checks (e.g. browser extensions and linters), manual keyboard testing, occasional screen reader passes, and code review. This is not a third-party formal audit unless we state otherwise.
